Each year, the ITW Conference Committee presents a $1,000 scholarship to the recipient of the K-12 Educator of the Year through the AIM Technology Celebration Banquet. This K-12 Educator of the Year is a member of the educational community noted for his or her outstanding technology leadership by enriching the educational experience for students, teachers, colleagues and education as a whole. The scholarship supports the school’s efforts to promote education of Information Technology to area students.

The recipient of this year's award is Mr. Leonard Kwapnioski, Technology Coordinator, Columbus Public Schools.

The Technology Coordinator for a public school system is an unending assignment. Leonard spent countless hours maintaining the integrity of the schools' information systems while major renovations were in progress. He set up a pilot program for submission of software proposals to pilot new ideas. Leonard is very energetic and not timid about proposing new ideas to the Board of Education.

While many are INTERESTED in technology, Leonard displays his PASSION for improving the efficiency and efficacy of the educational process, inside and outside the classroom. He does not seek recognition, but rather embodies the true spirit of teaching, "He does it for the kids."
